The season starts with flowering trees and bulbs, followed later by masses of old fashioned roses and borders filled with herbaceous and annual plants plus many unusual shrubs. The result provides colour throughout the seasons. ![]() In addition a studio and gallery is home to varied exhibitions throughout the season by contemporary painters, sculptures and potters, on display and for sale. Tutorial painting and drawing instruction is also available by arrangement. Gerald and Lindel williams together with a single full time gardener are responsible for all the hard work involved in keeping the gardens at their best, while still finding time for art. The garden has also been recognised for its outstanding contribution to 'gardening for wildlife' with a gold award from the Kent Wildlife Trust, for nurturing wildlife in the garden, woodland and meadows. Something I found refreshing about Marle Place was the freedom to wander around all areas of the garden even bordering the house without the usual restrictions of private access. Apart from the interior of the house itself I found myself free to wander anywhere. Merle place is located close to Brenchley in Kent accessed via the A21 and B2162.
